I take the strain of travelling because I love to be somewhere else. Going as Viennese to Trieste gives you sometimes the impression you haven’t left home at all. Between 1382 und 1918 the Italian town belonged to Austria. Of course Trieste is a town with many different faces due to its geographic location but one or another corner calls to mind Vienna. This did so to the point of getting an invitation to a book presentation at the Teatro Verdi by a group of Austrians, who were complete strangers to my travel companion and me. They only happened to sit beside us in the famous Caffè degli Specchi. (Thanks again to Karin Strahner for the invitation.) If something like this won’t happen to you, Trieste offers enough varieties – among other things a magnificent trip to the nearby Miramare Castle.
